At LettsSafari we tend to let our hair down on Fridays - actually most days! This week the Alpacas joined us. Up close and personal.
“Stare into my eyes… Or I’ll spit at you!” Did you know that Alpacas fight by spitting at each other and they can wrestle their compatriots to the ground with their shoulders and front legs?
The herd at LettsSafari’s Dawlish Park are some of the only wilded Alpaca in the Western world. And they love it!
Alpaca are very protective of their flock. And they’re not afraid to get close up. They can kill a predator by stamping them with their front feet and raking their claws. They can also move pretty fast. Don’t get fooled by their lolloping movement - kind of like Sid the sloth in the Ice Age movies!
