Section 1. "Smaller-Scale Rewilding: A Practical Guide to Restoring Nature in Your Own Space"
Section 1 of the definitive guide to smaller-scale rewilding from the pioneering team at LettsSafari.
Last week we announced the launch of “Smaller-Scale Rewilding: A Practical Guide to Restoring Nature in Your Own Space”. This, extensive guide will be published first, for our members at LettsSafari+, in weekly instalments, section by section - starting today. Photos and videos will make it an immersive experience, references and embeds make it an extended learning tool. It has taken many years to produce this work - we hope you will enjoy it.
See Section 1 below.

Introduction to Smaller-Scale Rewilding
Smaller-scale rewilding refers to ecological restoration projects conducted on relatively modest parcels of land - generally anything smaller than about 250 acres. Unlike the vast wilderness reserves often associated with classic rewilding efforts, smaller-scale rewilding takes place in our backyards, city parks, farms, and other limited spaces. It embraces the idea that every patch of land can contribute to nature recovery.
Smaller-Scale Rewilding - Definitions & Models
LettsSafari parks use rewilding as a core ecological infrastructure technology, and we pioneered smaller-scale rewilding - starting in 2006. As a, part of this series we take a look at the key definitions for rewilding in general, and smaller-scale rewilding more specifically, before examining the various models that make up this popular type of rewildi…
In these projects, humans step back and allow natural processes to reshape the landscape, fostering a rich mosaic of vegetation and wildlife even on a tiny fraction of the area traditionally thought necessary for conservation. This inclusive definition means a community garden or an urban pond can be a rewilding site just as much as a national park - it’s the approach and ecological outcome that count, not sheer size.
